What to expect

It is a theme park where you can enjoy the distinctive collective performances of monkeys. The monkeys here are professionally trained and can present a variety of wonderful performances, such as monkey school, fun performances, twelve zodiac signs, ninja and other reserved programs. These performances not only show the intelligence of monkeys, but also incorporate rich storylines and humorous elements, which are deeply loved by the audience. Different from ordinary monkey performances, its feature is that it is not a one-on-one performance between humans and monkeys, but a one-on-one performance between multiple monkeys or a female actress. This form of performance is more novel and interesting, and can bring a more shocking visual experience to the audience. In addition to watching the performances, tourists can also interact with monkeys in the park. For example, activities such as duck-driving competitions not only increase the sense of participation of tourists, but also allow tourists to get closer to nature and understand the living habits of monkeys.

The 50-55 mins show was really fun. It was the highlight of the whole visit in Nikko Saru Gundan. The monkeys were cute. I hope they are treated and fed well because they deserve it. We definitely had a great time.

Mistreatment of animals, both mentally and physically. I witnessed physical abuse. They are kept in old and filthy living conditions in small enclosures. Please refer to the photo I have posted. It’s a picture of a review that I wrote on another site.

When visited Nikko, my children found a brochure and wanted to go to this place. I thought we could interact with animals, so without thinking too much, we went. However, to sum it up, I felt there was an issue from an animal welfare perspective. I felt sorry seeing the monkeys being made to perform tricks with a leash around their necks. It seemed that some of the people working there were considerate toward the monkeys, but I believe the overall concept of the place is problematic. (Though it's a long-standing tradition, perhaps it's time to update this practice.) Things like the "Monkey UFO Catcher," where a monkey grabs a toy for you like a UFO catcher machine after you put in money, or playing table hockey with them, just seemed like an example of exploiting animals to make money. It was painful to watch... Sorry to say this but I feel like this could teach the wrong lesson to children...

Monkey shows and you can play air hockey with the monkey as well!

A fun place for the kids to see monkeys (Nikko is famous for the three monkeys 🙈🙉🙊) penguins, rabbits, goats and Guinea pigs. The highlight for my 2 year old was getting to pet the baby monkey and play with the penguins. They several shows inside (air conditioned) and outside where the trained monkeys are dressed up and do tricks.
