Rising 468 metres above Shanghai's Lujiazui financial district, the Oriental Pearl Radio & Television Tower has defined the city's skyline since 1994. Its distinctive spheres and futuristic silhouette make it one of China's most recognizable structures. You'll access multiple observation levels via high-speed double-decker elevators that carry up to 50 passengers, each deck offering a different perspective of the Huangpu River, the historic Bund, and the sprawling cityscape below.
The tower's lower levels house the Shanghai Municipal History Museum, where you can explore exhibits tracing the city's transformation from trading port to global metropolis. Choose between two-sphere or three-sphere tickets depending on how high you want to climb. The glass-floor skywalk delivers an adrenaline rush as you peer straight down through transparent panels to the streets far below.
What to expect
You'll begin your visit by boarding one of the tower's high-capacity double-decker elevators, which whisk you up to the observation spheres. Depending on your ticket type, you'll access either two or three different levels, each offering unique viewing angles of Shanghai. The lower observation deck sits at 263 metres, while the highest sphere reaches significantly further up the 468-metre structure.
At each level, floor-to-ceiling windows provide unobstructed views across the city. The glass-floor skywalk adds a thrilling element as you step onto transparent panels suspended high above ground. Visited the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in October 2024, and it’s easily one of Shanghai’s most iconic landmarks. Even if you don’t go up, the tower itself is impressive to see up close, especially at night when it’s fully lit and reflected along the Huangpu River. I went up to the observation decks, and the panoramic view of Pudong and the Bund is amazing. On a clear day, you can really appreciate how massive and modern Shanghai is. The glass floor section is a fun (and slightly scary) experience and worth trying at least once.

It's an amazing view of Shanghai and the Bund up the Oriental Pearl Tower, the standard ticket is well worth it for the experience of being able to see the amazing city of Shanghai from up high. I can't give it 5 stars due to the fact that the space capsule (upper floors) were overpriced for the experience you get. The windows were incredibly small and not accessible to short people.
